The repetitive high-rises and apartment buildings that shape the landscape of Korea are often perceived with a hint of negativity by its residents. To them, these structures represent the competitive, hectic, and unstructured rush for growth.

To me, however, they are what define Korea. The mountains of buildings form a cityscape unique to the country, reflecting its history, economy, and culture.

With this body of work, the aim was to explore the spaces these buildings create — the resonances they form in the voids between them and the borders they draw against the sky. It seeks to generate appreciation for this tetris of forms, crammed together to create rhythm and texture. These elements, when taken out of their original context, can offer a new perspective from which to appreciate the cityscape.
